Lunachicks – We Can Be Worster 2026

LUNACHICKS finally get their first proper best-of with “We Can Be Worster”, a 13-track blast of punk, metal, trashy glamour and New York attitude. It is loud, funny, abrasive and gloriously wrong in all the right places.
Formed as teenagers at New York’s LaGuardia High School, LUNACHICKS came up through the same downtown ecosystem that fed bands into CBGB, The Limelight and the wider alternative underground. Their sound was never cleanly punk or metal; it carried bits of RAMONES velocity, BLACK SABBATH weight, KISS theatricality, BLONDIE cool and enough sarcasm to keep the whole thing dangerous.
“We Can Be Worster” works like a guided tour through that mess.
“Drop Dead” and “Less Teeth More Tits” hit first with exactly the kind of rude, high-energy punch the band built their name on, while “Don’t Want You” and “Jan Brady” bring more of the bratty melodic side into the mix.
“Bad Ass Bitch” and “C.I.L.L.” keep the guitars mean and direct, while “Plugg” adds another dose of warped humor. “Luxury Problem” and “Light as a Feather” show how easily LUNACHICKS could move between punk aggression and hook-heavy alternative rock without ever cleaning themselves up too much.
“Jerk Of All Trades” remains one of their strongest calling cards, all jagged riffs and attitude, while “Babysitters On Acid” reaches back to the band’s earliest era and reminds you just how strange and fearless their debut sounded at the start of the ’90s.
“Dear Dotti” brings more melody into the closing stretch before “Heart of Glass” wraps the collection with their own hard-edged take on the BLONDIE classic.
The charm of this compilation is that it does not try to make LUNACHICKS look respectable. Their music was always about volume, humor, confrontation and refusing to behave properly, and the track selection keeps that spirit intact.
For longtime fans, “We Can Be Worster” is a sharp reminder of why the band became such a cult name. For newcomers, it is a very efficient way to discover one of New York’s loudest, weirdest and most entertaining punk-rock exports.
