KUNI – Lookin’ For Action [Japanese remastered CD +2] (2018)

All Exclusive Hard Rock

The long out-of-print sophomore album from Japanese guitar virtuoso Kuni finally returns in its highly sought-after Japanese remastered edition. Originally released in 1988, Lookin’ For Action remains one of the finest examples of late-’80s Melodic Metal and Melodic Hard Rock, combining blistering guitar work, unforgettable hooks, and one of Jeff Scott Soto’s greatest vocal performances.

Released as part of Universal Music Japan’s “Hard-to-find Japan’s Edition Revived!!” campaign, this edition features the acclaimed Japanese remaster along with two exclusive live bonus tracks recorded in Tokyo in 1988, making it the definitive version of the album.

Jeff Scott Soto handles all lead vocals and co-wrote much of the material alongside Kuni, delivering soaring melodies and powerful performances throughout. The rhythm section is equally impressive, with Douglas Taylor Baker on bass and the phenomenal Mike Terrana on drums, while Dana Strum provides a huge, polished production that perfectly captures the sound of American melodic hard rock at its peak.

The album kicks off with the explosive “Strangers In The Night,” immediately showcasing Kuni’s razor-sharp guitar tone and Soto’s incredible vocal range. Highlights continue with the hard-hitting “Shine On,” the beautiful instrumental “Acoustic Piece,” the emotional power ballad “Memories Of You,” and the anthem-like title track “Lookin’ For Action.”

The second half never loses momentum, delivering standout tracks such as “Say Goodbye,” “All Night Long,” “Reckless,” “Little Rebel,” and “Someday.” Throughout the album, Kuni proves himself to be far more than a technical shredder, combining outstanding musicianship with memorable songwriting and tasteful solos that always serve the songs.

The two exclusive live recordings, “All Night Long” and “Reckless,” demonstrate that this band was just as devastating on stage as it was in the studio. Jeff Scott Soto effortlessly reproduces the demanding vocal lines live, while the band delivers an energetic and powerful performance.

With its excellent remastering, outstanding musicianship, unforgettable melodies, and exclusive live material, Lookin’ For Action [Japanese Remastered CD +2] is an essential addition to any Melodic Hard Rock or Melodic Metal collection.
