Raw, melodic and proudly old-school, this is US heavy metal before grunge slammed the door shut.

TEACHER’S PETT formed in Washington in 1983 and spent the rest of the decade carving out a place in the Northwest metal scene. They shared stages with bands such as SAVATAGE, CRIMSON GLORY, RIOT, VICIOUS RUMORS and ALICE IN CHAINS, but like many strong regional acts of the era, never managed to land the record deal their material deserved.

The sound sits right between traditional US heavy metal and power metal: sharp twin guitars, high-register vocals, plenty of melody and that slightly tougher Pacific Northwest edge that kept the songs from sounding too polished.

“In The Darkness” and “Tearin’ Up The Night” are obvious standouts, with the latter carrying exactly the kind of late-’80s metallic charge the title promises. “Goodnight” and “Memories” show a more melodic side, while “Walkin’ With The Evil Kind” and “Dangerous” push into darker territory.

“Metal Soldiers” sounds like the sort of song made for fists in the air, while “Mistress In Black” carries more dramatic classic-metal weight. “Halloween” leans into the darker atmosphere, and “On-On-On” brings the energy back toward something more direct and anthemic.

What makes this collection worthwhile is the roughness. These recordings were never designed to become a polished modern album, and that gives them real character. You can hear a band still fighting for attention, pushing songs around the room and trying to break through before the musical climate changed underneath them.

By 1991, Seattle had become the center of a very different revolution, and bands like TEACHER’S PETT suddenly found themselves on the wrong side of history. “Tearing Up The Night” finally gives their material the physical release it missed the first time around.

Country: US
Label: AOR Blvd Records
Genre: Heavy Metal / US Power Metal
Original recordings: 1988–1991
Release: 2026
Format: Limited CD
Edition: 500 copies

Tracklist:
01 – In The Darkness
02 – Goodnight
03 – On-On-On
04 – Mistress In Black
05 – Tearin’ Up The Night
06 – Memories
07 – Walkin’ With The Evil Kind
08 – Dangerous
09 – Metal Soldiers
10 – Halloween
11 – [Archive Demo]
12 – [Archive Demo]

Billy Young – Vocals
Mike Powers – Guitar
Paul Anala – Guitar
Ted Pickett – Bass
Tim Chapton – Drums

MP3 FLAC

Seattle metal obscurity TEACHER’S PETT finally gets dragged out of the demo-tape underground with “Tearing Up The Night”, a 12-track archival collection built from recordings made during the band’s late-’80s and early-’90s run.
