It is blues with country scars, folk blood and enough rock ’n’ roll dirt under the fingernails to keep everything honest.

After the gentler folk leanings of his 2024 EP “Old Growth”, Harrison deliberately turns the amps up here. He has described the album as the blues-rock record he had wanted to make for years, and that change in direction is obvious from the start.

“Leaders” opens with a firm, rootsy pulse before “Run” pushes harder into blues-rock territory. “Down The Line” keeps the guitars gritty and loose, while “Peace With Me” lands as one of the album’s key tracks — a raw confessional that earned Harrison a Queensland Music Awards nomination in the Blues/Roots category.

“When The Lights Go Down” gives the record more breathing space, but “Nightingale” is where Harrison’s storytelling really cuts deep. Built around twanging guitar and lap steel, the song deals with domestic abuse without turning the subject into cheap drama, giving the music a dark country-rock weight.

The title track carries more of that nocturnal atmosphere, while “St. Louis Blues” nods toward older blues traditions without sounding like a museum exercise. “Bleed Yourself” drags the album back through fuzz and grit before “Godammit” closes things in a more reflective, sun-going-down mood.

What makes “Blood On The Moon” work is how naturally the styles bleed together. Blues, country, folk and early rock ’n’ roll are all here, but Harrison never sounds like he is ticking genre boxes. Everything runs through the same weathered voice and distinctly Australian storytelling sensibility.

Recorded at his own So-So Silver Studios, the album keeps the production stripped enough for the performances to breathe. There is polish where it helps, but plenty of dirt is left on the tyres.

Country: Australia
Genre: Blues Rock / Roots Rock / Country Rock
Release date: October 26, 2026
Format: CD / Digital
Audio: 16-bit / 44.1 kHz

Tracklist:
01 – Leaders (3:19)
02 – Run
03 – Down The Line
04 – Peace With Me
05 – When The Lights Go Down
06 – Nightingale
07 – Blood On The Moon
08 – St. Louis Blues
09 – Bleed Yourself
10 – Godammit

Tom Harrison – Vocals, Guitar
Paul Bain – Drums
Sean Power – Guitar
Tim Kemp – Bass
Phillip Leggett – Lap Steel

Recorded at So-So Silver Studios
Mixed by Levi Russell & Nell Forster
Mastered by Paul Blakey

turbo

Australian blues-rock songwriter Tom Harrison steps out with “Blood On The Moon”, a debut album full of road dust, fuzzed-up guitars and stories that feel lived rather than invented.
