The original Leathür Records version of “Too Fast For Love” is that moment caught on tape — raw, filthy, fast and still dangerous enough to leave tyre marks across the speakers.

Originally self-released in November 1981 in a run of only around 900 copies, this is the album before Elektra cleaned the windows. The guitars are rougher, the rhythm section hits with less polish and more street-level impact, and Vince Neil sounds like he is singing from the middle of a club rather than the other side of a major-label mixing desk.

The difference is not simply louder or dirtier mastering. The original Leathür edition carries its own mix and sequencing, and “Stick To Your Guns” — removed from the later 1982 Elektra configuration — sits right in the middle of the record like a switchblade somebody forgot to confiscate.

“Live Wire” still explodes out of the gate, but here it has a scrappier punk edge. “Public Enemy #1” and “Take Me To The Top” feel less groomed and more desperate, while “Piece Of Your Action” practically reeks of cigarette smoke, cheap leather and Sunset Strip pavement after midnight.

Then there are the songs that show MÖTLEY CRÜE were never just about speed and attitude. “Starry Eyes” carries a surprisingly bruised melodic streak, “Merry-Go-Round” leans into something darker and more vulnerable, and “On With The Show” closes the original record with a strange sense of battered triumph.

That roughness is exactly what makes the Leathür version special. You can hear a band before success taught them how to sound enormous. The mistakes, the uneven edges and the youthful overconfidence are all still in the room — and they give the record a pulse the later mix could never completely reproduce.

The 2026 remaster finally brings this legendary version properly into the digital age as part of the album’s 45th anniversary celebration. For collectors, the deluxe box also restores the original 1981 edition on vinyl and CD alongside the 1982 Elektra version, March 1981 demos and previously unreleased Perkins Palace live recordings.

This is not MÖTLEY CRÜE looking back at their youth through rose-colored glasses. This is the youth itself — loud, broke, sleazy and convinced it could conquer Hollywood by Friday night.

Country: US
Label: BMG
Genre: Hard Rock / Glam Metal / Sleaze Rock
Original release: November 1981
2026 release: October 30, 2026
Format: Digital / 24-Bit 96 kHz
Total time: 45:42

Tracklist:
01 – Live Wire (Leathür Records Version) (3:16)
02 – Public Enemy #1 (Leathür Records Version) (4:23)
03 – Take Me To The Top (Leathür Records Version) (3:44)
04 – Merry-Go-Round (Leathür Records Version) (3:21)
05 – Piece Of Your Action (Leathür Records Version) (4:41)
06 – Starry Eyes (Leathür Records Version) (4:29)
07 – Stick To Your Guns (Leathür Records Version) (4:19)
08 – Come On And Dance (Leathür Records Version) (3:13)
09 – Too Fast For Love (Leathür Records Version) (4:16)
10 – On With The Show (Leathür Records Version) (4:03)
11 – Nobody Knows What It’s Like To Be Lonely (Demo March 1981) (5:57)

Vince Neil – Lead Vocals
Mick Mars – Guitar
Nikki Sixx – Bass
Tommy Lee – Drums

MP3 FLAC

Before the hairspray towers, pyro budgets and tabloid mythology, MÖTLEY CRÜE were four hungry maniacs trying to set Los Angeles on fire with whatever they could afford.
