The album moves between polished AOR, hard rock muscle, romantic melodies and the kind of instantly accessible choruses that seem genetically engineered for the open road. ([Frontiers Music Srl][1])

The title track, Fire & Ice, gives the album its mission statement, but The Call Of Love and Stranded are where Issa really gets the engine running. There is plenty of sparkle in the production, but underneath the gloss sits a proper rock backbone. Guitars have weight, the rhythm section keeps things moving and Issa’s voice remains the focal point rather than another decorative layer in the mix.

And that is the secret weapon here.

Issa does not need to shout to make an impression. Her vocals have the clarity and authority to handle the softer melodic passages, while the heavier moments receive enough attitude to keep the album firmly on the rock side of the AOR border. The result is polished, but never timid.

Sea Of Desire brings the romantic side of the record into focus, while All Or Nothing and The Shadow Of Night push the album toward a more dramatic and muscular territory. Bullet On The Road sounds exactly like the sort of song that should be played while driving somewhere with absolutely no intention of arriving early.

The best thing about Fire And Ice is that it does not try to reinvent melodic rock. It simply understands why the genre works.

Big melodies. Strong guitars. Emotional vocals. Choruses you remember before the song has finished.

In an era when some records need three paragraphs of explanation before you understand what they are trying to accomplish, Fire And Ice is refreshingly direct. Press play and the argument is over.

This is melodic hard rock with its priorities in the right order: melody in the front seat, guitars in the back, and absolutely no intention of taking the scenic route.

**Verdict: 8.5/10**

1.
