Henning Pauly – Credit Where Credit Is Due (2005)
German born Henning Pauly seems to be somewhat of a workaholic, being involved in at least a couple of releases yearly since his band “Chain” signed for Progrock Records in 2003. This release is a mostly improvised affair being recorded in the middle of other projects, where Pauly plays around with the metal genre. What enfolds are playful experiments, at times hilarious lyrics, and an overall feel of musicians fooling around and having a good time in the studio; and in spite of that (or maybe because of that) managing to produce a very good release. This is not music for everybody though, the main rule for this release seems to be that rules are made to be broken. But if experiments within the metal genre sounds like a good thing to you, this one should be checked out.
The album even kicks off in great rocking style with “Your Mother Is A Trucker” and the album ends with more lyrical humour with another not too bad heavy metal rocking song “I Like My Video Games” which is not completely the end of the album as it does contain a bonus track in German, which sounds like Henning is having some metal bashing fun perhaps in Cheech & Chong style.
